The film follows two high school students, (Indiana Evans) and Dean (Brenton Thwaites), who are worlds apart in their social lives. Emma is a popular, overachieving student, while Dean is seen as a brooding slacker and school outcast. They are on a class trip to Trinidad meant for humanitarian work. During a wild party on a boat, a police raid causes chaos, and Emma falls overboard. Dean jumps in to save her, and the two end up adrift in a small lifeboat, eventually washing ashore on a deserted tropical island.
